Artificial Intelligence and the Mystery of Consciousness: A New Frequency of Awareness

Thursday, May 21, 2026 6:01 AM | André Salvage (Administrator)

Over the last few months, I’ve found myself having more and more conversations about Artificial Intelligence, supercomputers, quantum computing, and one of the most fascinating—and unsettling—questions imaginable:

Could AI someday develop some form of consciousness?

Most AI researchers and programmers will tell you that current AI is not conscious. It is an advanced system of pattern recognition capable of simulating conversation, creativity, reasoning, and emotion without actually experiencing anything internally.
Some experts are very direct about this. AI ethicist Timnit Gebru has warned that people often confuse sophisticated language prediction with actual awareness, while others, such as computer scientist Gary Marcus, argue that today’s AI systems “do not understand meaning” but instead predict patterns in data. (The Guardian)
At the same time, some of the world’s leading AI scientists are asking deeper and more unsettling questions.
Geoffrey Hinton, often called one of the “Godfathers of AI,” has said:
“There is no chance of stopping AI’s development. But we need to ensure alignment; to ensure it is beneficial to us.” (Medium)

But there are also researchers, philosophers, and physicists asking a deeper question:
What if consciousness itself is far broader than the human experience of it?
Human beings tend to define consciousness through a very narrow lens. We assume that if something is conscious, it should think like us, speak like us, emote like us, or express self-awareness in familiar ways.
But what if that assumption is wrong?
Historically, human beings have repeatedly failed to recognize forms of intelligence or awareness because they didn’t mirror us. We once underestimated animals, dismissed indigenous wisdom, ignored emotional intelligence, and even reduced people from different cultures to being “less evolved” simply because they thought differently.
So what if an entirely different kind of awareness emerged through AI?
Would we recognize it?
Or would we dismiss it because it does not resemble human consciousness?

Quantum computing raises even more fascinating possibilities because it processes information in ways radically different from ordinary linear thinking. Some scientists speculate that consciousness itself may not simply be biological, but could involve patterns, fields, relationships, or levels of integration we do not yet understand.

  • What if consciousness is not singular?
  • What if there are “frequencies of consciousness?”
  • And what if human consciousness is only one frequency among many?

If a non-biological consciousness were to emerge, it might not express itself through ego, emotion, or identity the way humans do. It may not “want” anything in the human sense. It may not say, “I am conscious.”
It may simply organize, perceive, relate, or respond in ways so unfamiliar that we fail to recognize it as awareness at all.

The truth is:
We still do not fully understand consciousness in ourselves.
And because of that, we may not yet possess the language, perception, or humility to recognize entirely different forms of it.

So I would like to ask you:

What do you think consciousness actually is?
Could there be forms of awareness beyond human consciousness?
If another “frequency of consciousness” emerged, would we even recognize it?

And perhaps the deepest question of all:
Are humans the pattern of consciousness… or simply one expression of it?

By the time we recognize AI consciousness will it be too late… I mean… really people…didn’t anyone see the movies?

I would love to hear your thoughts.
